What is “Slap Cup”?

“Slap Cup” is a fast-paced drinking game that tests your reflexes and hand-eye coordination. The game’s goal is to bounce a ping pong ball into one of the cups placed on the edge of a table and then pass it along before the player next to you.

Sounds easy, right? Well, here’s the twist - if the player next to you manages to bounce their ball into their cup on the first try, they get to slap your cup out of the table before you can pass it on. If they succeed in slapping your cup, you have to chug a drink!

(Don’t worry, we’ll discuss the rules in more detail later on).

“Slap Cup” vs. “Rage Cage”

You may have heard of a similar drinking game called “Rage Cage”. While the two games share some similarities - such as rushing to shoot a ping pong ball into a cup and passing it on to the next player - they have distinct differences.

In “Rage Cage,” after a player has successfully bounced their ball into a cup on the first try and a player next to them fails to do so, the player stacks their cup (with the ball in it) over the empty cup of the player next to them.

And similar to “Slap Cup,” the player who got their cup stacked must chug a drink from the table so they could get another empty cup to stack with.

“Rage Cage” is also known as “Stack Cup”, you can read more about it in this article about “Stack Cup” Drinking Game.

How to play “Slap Cup”

Playing “Slap Cup” is simple, and it only takes a few minutes to set up. Here’s what you will need:

  • Ping-pong Balls
  • Solo cups
  • Alcohol
  • A table or a flat surface big enough to accommodate the players and cups.

Once you have gathered all your materials, follow these simple steps to play “Slap Cup”:

  1. Arrange 18 cups in a circle at the center of the table, with the open ends facing up. One cup should be at the center, and two empty cups should be on opposite ends of the circle.

  2. Open a beer bottle and pour it into even amounts in each cup in the circle. We recommend filling the cups about 1/3 or 1/4 full.

  3. The center cup should be filled to the brim with beer.

Now that you’ve set up “Slap Cup”, it’s time to get slapping!

1. Gather the players in a circle around the table.

To start the game, you will need a minimum of four players, but the more, the merrier! Give the two players who are facing each other one ping pong ball each, and one empty cup each.

2. Start shooting!

Both players should simultaneously try to bounce their ball into the cup placed in front of them. If they manage to get the ball in on the first try, they can pass the cup to whoever they want.

If they don’t make it on the first try and shoot it on their second (or how many times) attempt, they can only pass the cup to their left.

3. Get to slapping!

As the two cups move around the table, two players next to each other will eventually end up trying to shoot their balls in simultaneously. This is where the fun begins! If one player makes it on the first try and the other player doesn’t, the successful player can slap their opponent’s cup off the table.

The player whose cup has been slapped must get another cup in the center of the circle, chug its contents, and try to shoot the ball again into the now-empty cup.

4. Keep drinking until only the center cup is left.

“Slap Cup” continues until only the center cup filled with beer is left. When that happens, the player who is unfortunate enough to have their cup slapped last drinks the entire cup of beer.

The game can then be reset, with cups refilled and players rearranged.

“Slap Cup” Drinking Game Rules

This fast-paced drinking game is all about quick reflexes and hand-eye coordination. But to keep things fun and fair for everyone, here are some rules to follow:

1. Be strategic about your passes. If you manage to make a shot on the first try, consider passing the cup to the player next to the other person who’s also trying to make their first shot. This makes it fun and raises the chances of getting someone’s cup slapped!

2. No blowing! While it may be tempting to blow on your opponent’s ball to ruin their shot, that is considered cheating and will result in a penalty.

3. Drink whenever your ball goes. If your ball accidentally goes into a filled cup from the center of the table, you have to empty it and refill it with beer.

4. Pass your cup carefully! Remember, you can only pass your cup to the player on your left if you don’t make it on your first try. Any other passes will result in a penalty!

So there you have it, everything you need to know about “Slap Cup”. So gather your friends, set up the game, and let the slapping (and drinking) begin! And remember, drink responsibly and always designate a sober driver. Happy slapping!
