Outdoor Drinking Games

πŸ‘‰ Playing indoor instead? Check out this comprehensive list of fun drinking games for your next party!

1. Giant Beer Pong

What could be better than Beer Pong? Playing it on a larger scale, of course! “Giant Beer Pong” is an outdoor drinking game for a sunny day in the park or at the beach.

How to Play “Giant Beer Pong”

Playing beer pong as an outdoor drinking game is similar to the regular version, but better! Here’s what you need:

  • Plastic trash cans or buckets
  • A playground ball (or any lightweight and bouncy ball)
  • Plenty of beer cups

1. Arrange the buckets or trash cans in a triangle formation. You can use anything from plastic trash cans to buckets or inflatable pool toys.

2. Fill your cups with beer and place them somewhere near the buckets. (Yes, you won’t need to fill your buckets with beer in this versionβ€”unless you really want to, of course!) You can also place your cups on another table so they don’t get knocked over during the game.

3. Form teams and alternate turns. Just like regular beer pong, each team takes turns throwing the ball into their opponent’s buckets. If a ball lands in a bucket successfully, that cup is removed, and the opposing team drinks its contents.

4. Keep playing until one side eliminates all the cups, or you decide to end the game. Just like in regular beer pong, the outdoor drinking game version can go on for as long as you want. Whoever gets rid of all the cups first is the winner!

5. But wait, there’s a twist! In “Giant Beer Pong”, if a team misses and hits one of their own buckets, they must drink all the remaining cups on that side. So be careful with your throws!

2. Beersbee

Test your throwing skills (while drunk!) with this fun outdoor drinking game. “Beersbee”, also known as Polish Horseshoes or Frisbye, is perfect for the beach or any open field, just as long as you have some poles or sticks to set up.

How to Play “Beersbee”

“Beersbee” is relatively easy and requires only a few items. Here’s what you need for this outdoor drinking game:

  • 2 poles or sticks
  • A Frisbee
  • Beer bottles or cans

1. Set up the playing field. Place two poles or sticks in the ground, leaving about 15 feet of space between them.

2. Place the beer bottles or cans on top of the poles. Each team (usually consisting of two players) has a pole with their bottle/can balanced on top.

3. Start throwing! The offense team goes first, and they can score points depending on the following:

  • 1 Point – Hitting the bottle by hitting the pole.
  • 2 Points – Hitting the bottle directly without hitting the pole.
  • 3 Points - Hitting the bottle directly and the defense team failing to catch either the Frisbee or the bottle.

4. The defending team must try to catch the Frisbee and bottle before they hit the ground. If they catch the bottle before it falls or hits the ground, a point is deducted from the offense team’s score.

If they catch both the Frisbee and the bottle, the offense team gets 0 points.

5. Switch teams! If a team scores 6 points, switch roles. If you were on defense, now you’re on offense.

6. Keep playing until one team reaches 21 points or divide into rounds. You can continue playing the outdoor drinking game “Beersbee” for as long as you like or divide it into rounds and switch teams after each round.

3. Flunkyball

The popular outdoor drinking game in Germany, “Flunkyball” is no doubt a staple in any outdoor drinking event. This game combines elements of throwing, catching, and chugging down drinks. Perfect for any outdoor gathering with friends!

How to Play “Flunkyball”

“Flunkyball” is a simple outdoor drinking game with only a few rules. To get started, you’ll need:

  • A soccer ball or any lightweight and bouncy ball
  • Two teams with equal numbers
  • Plenty of beer bottles or cans
  • A huge playing field

1. Divide into teams. Pick a fancy or (we recommend) a funny team name - it’s all part of the fun! Each team will stand on opposite sides of the playing field, and each player should have a drink.

2. Place your soccer ball and beer bottles or cans in a line in the middle of the field. They should be equal to the number of players in each team.

3. The first team goes first. The first player takes the ball and throws it at the bottles in the middle of the field.

4. If they hit one or more bottles, the opposing team must run to retrieve the ball as fast as possible. The team who hit the bottles must chug their drink as fast as possible before the opposing team retrieves the ball and places it back in the middle of the field. Once the ball is back in its place, you must stop drinking.

5. If a player misses, their turn passes and it’s the next team’s turn. This outdoor drinking game continues until one team has finished their drinks and sets down their bottles.

6. The game ends once one team has consumed all of their drinks and set down their bottles. The winning team is the one that finishes first!

4. Flip Cup

“Flip Cup” is a classic that never gets old. It’s fast-paced, competitive, and requires very little skill (which is perfect when you’re already a few drinks in). Plus, you can turn it into an outdoor drinking game!

How to Play “Flip Cup”

“Flip Cup” is a team game, with each team having an equal number of players. You’ll need:

  • Plastic cups (one for each player)
  • A large table

1. Divide into teams and line up next to each other on one side of the table. Place a cup in front of each player.

2. Fill your cups about ΒΌ full with beer. You can use more or less, depending on your preference; we won’t judge!

3. Start drinking! The first players on each team start drinking their beer as quickly as possible. Once they finish, they must place the cup on the edge of the table and use one hand to flip it over so that it is now upside down on the table.

4. The next player starts drinking once the first player successfully flips their cup. This continues until all players on a team have finished and flipped their cups. The first team to finish wins!

5. If a player fails to flip their cup, they must try again before the next person can start drinking. If this happens, it gives the other team an advantage.

6. Keep playing until one team wins the best out of three or five rounds. “Flip Cup” is a quick outdoor drinking game, so it’s perfect for multiple rounds. The first team to win the best out of three or five rounds is declared the ultimate “Flip Cup” champion!

5. “Stump”

If you’re playing in your backyard and have some tree stumps lying around, you’re in luck! “Stump” is a popular outdoor drinking game that originated from college parties in the US.

It’s cheap, easy, and a great way to have some fun with friends while enjoying the outdoors.

How to Play “Stump”

For this game, as long as you have a wooden stump, a hammer, and some nails, you’re good to go! Just be careful with the hammer and nails, especially when you’ve had a few drinks. Here’s how to play this outdoor drinking game:

1. Gather around the stump. Make sure it’s secure and won’t move around during gameplay. Make sure each player has a drink in their hand.

2. Each player starts with a nail that should be nailed in the same depth. This is the starting point and should be relatively easy for everyone to hit.

3. Take turns hitting the nails with the hammer! While holding their drink, each player has to take turns hitting their nails once per turn. The aim of this outdoor drinking game is to get the nail completely into the stump first.

4. If a player successfully gets their nail into the stump on their turn, everyone else loses. This means everybody else has to finish their drink while the winner basks in glory.

5. You can play for as long as you like or make it more interesting by creating different rules. For example, if someone misses the stump, they have to take a shot or do a dare. Be creative, but always remember to drink responsibly and have fun!

6. “Boat Race”

Similar to “Flip Cup”, “Boat Race” is another fast-paced, outdoor drinking game that’s perfect for large groups. It’s easy to set up and can get pretty rowdy - in a good way!

How to Play “Boat Race”

Setting up “Boat Race” is simple and shouldn’t take more than a few minutes. You’ll need:

  • Two long tables (or enough space for all players)
  • Plastic cups (one for each player)
  • Plenty of beer

1. Divide into teams and line up at the long tables opposite each other. The two teams should be facing each other. Make sure each player has a cup in front of them filled with equal amounts of beer.

2. The first players on each team start drinking their beer as fast as possible. Once they finish, they must flip their cups upside down on the edge of the table to signify that they’re finished.

3. Once the first player successfully flips their cup, the next player can start drinking. This continues until all players on a team have finished and flipped their cups.

4. Which team finishes first wins! The first team to finish all their drinks and flip their cups is declared the winner.

7. “Beer Darts”

“Beer Darts” is a popular outdoor drinking game that combines precision and accuracy with, you guessed it, beer! Make sure you’ve got plenty of room to show off your dart-throwing skills and enjoy some frosty beverages.

But don’t worry, the idea isn’t to hit each other with the darts (ouch!), but rather your opponents’ cups filled with beer.

How to Play “Beer Darts”

There’s no limit to how much fun you can have with “Beer Darts”. But to get started, you’ll need:

  • A set of darts
  • At least 3 beer cans for each team
  • At least two players
  • Two wooden planks (to use as boards)
  • Two chairs

1. Set up the outdoor drinking game by placing two wooden planks vertical on the ground, about 20 feet apart from each other. These will be your boards for throwing the darts.

2. Place a chair before each wooden plank. The two players will sit on these chairs behind the wooden planks.

3. Each player will have a filled beer can placed in front of their wooden plank on the ground. This is their target for the darts.

4. Take turns throwing darts at your opponent’s beer can! The aim is to hit and puncture their can with your dart.

5. If you successfully hit your opponent’s can, they must pick it up and start chugging their beer. Then, get another beer and place it back in front of their wooden plank as a new target. The first team to finish all 3 beers loses!

8. “Slip and Flip Cup”

Want to get wet and wild? “Slip and Flip Cup” is the perfect game for you! This outdoor drinking game combines two classics: “Slip and Slide” (or any water slide) and “Flip Cup”.

How to Play “Slip and Flip Cup”

This game is best played outdoors on a hot day. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A water slide or tarp
  • Plenty of beer
  • Plastic cups (one for each player)
  • A table

1. Set up the Slip and Slide or tarp on a flat surface, preferably with some grass underneath. The longer the slide, the more fun it will be!

2. Place a table at the end of the slide, and set up plastic cups filled with beer on it. Make sure you have cups of equal size for each player.

3. Divide into two teams and line up at the starting point of the slide. Pour a little bit of beer onto the slide to make it extra slippery!

4. Go! The first player from each team slides down the slide, chugs their cup of beer at the end, and then tries to flip it onto the table. Once they successfully flip their cup, the next player on their team can go.

5. The first team to finish chugging and flipping all their cups is the winner! This game can get pretty competitive, so be prepared for some intense sliding and flipping action. And don’t forget to stay hydrated - with water, of course!

9. “Spikeball”

“Spikeball” is a popular outdoor drinking game that’s been gaining popularity in recent years. It’s similar to volleyball, but instead of hitting the ball over a net, you bounce it off a circular net on the ground. And, of course, there are drinking rules involved!

How to Play “Spikeball”

A game of “Spikeball” requires some equipment, but it’s worth it for the fun you’ll have. It’s perfect for the beach, park, or any open area. Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A “Spikeball” set (includes a net and ball)
  • At least four players
  • Plenty of beer

1. Set up the “Spikeball” net on a flat surface. The net should be placed in the center of the playing area.

2. Divide into two teams of two players each. Teams should stand on opposite sides of the net.

3. Place a beer can next to each player on both teams. This will be their designated drinking spot.

4. Start playing! The outdoor drinking game begins with the first team serving the ball off the net and upwards to the opposing team. All strikes must hit the net before the opposing team’s turn.

5. Each team only has three alternating touches before returning the ball to the other team. A player can’t hit the ball twice in a row.

6. If a team is unable to return the ball, the other team earns a point. They also have to drink from their designated beer can before continuing the game.

7. The first team to reach 15 or 21 points wins! If you want to make it more challenging, add a rule that every time a team scores, the losing team has to finish their beers before continuing the game. This will definitely level up the competition!

10. “Dizzy Bat”

“Dizzy Bat” is a classic outdoor drinking game that’s perfect for any gathering. It involves spinning around with a baseball bat and chugging a beer - what could go wrong?

How to Play “Dizzy Bat”

“Dizzy Bat” requires some coordination and might leave you feeling a little woozy, but trust us, it’s worth it! Here’s what you’ll need:

  • A plastic wiffle ball bat
  • Plenty of beer

1. Each player will have their own turn with the “Dizzy Bat”. Line up in a designated area, and make sure there’s plenty of space around you. Safety first!

2. Fill your cup or can with beer and place it on the ground at your feet. This will be your designated drinking spot. Make sure everyone has equal amounts of beer.

3. The first player will put their can on top of the bat and chug their beer until it’s gone. Once they finish, they’ll put the handle side of the bat to their forehead and have the other end touch the ground.

4. Now spin! The player spins around in circles, ten times, as fast as they can!

5. After they are finished spinning, they have 3 seconds to gain their composure before someone pitches them a ball or a beer can.Β If they hit the ball/can, they win the game! If they miss, they lose and have to finish their drink.

6. The next player goes once the previous one is finished with the game. Continue until everyone has had a turn.

And there you have it - 10 fun and exciting outdoor drinking games for your next gathering! Whether you’re looking to cool off with Slip and “Flip Cup” or get a little competitive with “Spikeball”, these games are sure to bring some laughter, friendly competition, and, of course, plenty of drinks.

Just remember to drink responsibly and have a designated driver if needed. Cheers!
