Before we get into the gameplay, let’s go over what you’ll need to play.

What do you need for Electricity?

All you need for this drinking game is:

  • A standard deck of cards (for large groups, 2 decks may be necessary)
  • Beer (3 to 4 per person per game)
  • 4+ players
  • A table or other surface to place the cards on

If you have those things, then you’re ready to play Electricity!

Setup for the Electricity Drinking Game

Sit around a table in a circular fashion. Shuffle the deck(s) of cards and place them face down in the middle of the table so every player can reach them.

Now the game can begin!

Gameplay for Electricity

1. Draw a card from the deck and flip it over.

One person starts by drawing a card from the deck and flipping it over in front of them so everyone can see it.

2. The next player continues.

The player to their left then flips over a card, then the next player, and so on, until a current is formed (when two players have flipped over matching cards). If, at any point of the game, an electric current is formed, the people involved must drink! The revealed cards determine how much they have to drink. We’ll get into that when we talk about the drinking rules for Electricity.

An electric current is formed:

  • if two cards of the same number are revealed (e.g., two 7s)
  • if two cards of the same suit are revealed (e.g., two clubs)
  • if two cards of the same face are revealed (e.g., two Jacks)

3. End of the Game

The game ends when the last card has been drawn from the deck (or you’re too drunk to continue, whichever comes first).

Electricity Drinking Game Rules

If an electric current is formed, all involved players must drink for a number of seconds according to the value of their card. You can decide beforehand what the value of each card is worth in drinks, but we recommend using the following values:

Ace - You must drink for one second

If you’re a part of a current and your card is an Ace, you must drink for one second. Not too bad, right?

Two - You must drink for two seconds

If you’re a part of a current and your card is a two, you’ll have to drink for two seconds. Still not too bad…yet.

Three - You must drink for three seconds

If you’re a part of a current and your card is a three, you guessed it, you’ll have to drink for three seconds.

Four - You must drink for four seconds

You get the idea by now. If you’re a part of a current and your card is a four, you’ll have to drink for four seconds.

Six - You must drink for six seconds

If you’re a part of a current and your card is a six, you’ll have to drink for six seconds. Are you starting to feel the effects yet?

Seven - You must drink for seven seconds

If you’re a part of a current and your card is a seven, you’ll have to drink for seven seconds. Now we’re getting into the heavy drinking range.

Eight - You must drink for eight seconds

If you’re a part of a current and your card is an eight, you’ll have to drink for eight seconds. This is starting to get serious.

1. Circle of Death

Circle of Death sounds morbid, but it’s actually a really fun drinking game. All you need to do is to draw cards and perform the action associated with that card. The actions are as follows:

How to play Circle of Death

All players sit around a table or on the floor in a circle. A cup of beer is placed in the center of the circle. All cards are spread face down in the middle of the circle around the cup of beer. One player starts by flipping over the top card and performing the action associated with that card. Then, the player to their left flips over the next card and so on.

3. Pyramid - Drinking Game

Pyramid is a game that requires players to have a good poker face and memory. But don’t worry, it’s not as complicated as it sounds!

How to Play Pyramid

  1. Setup the pyramid: The dealer puts the cards face down in a 6-5-4-3-2-1 pyramid. After that, each player receives four playing cards.

  2. Every player gets four hand cards. They can only quickly glance at their cards (around 5-10 seconds) before putting them face down in front of them.

  3. The dealer starts the game: The dealer flips over one card at a time, starting at the bottom of the pyramid. If the turned-over card matches one of your hand cards, you can tell the others to drink. Of course, you always have the opportunity to bluff. But beware, if you get caught bluffing, you have to drink twice the amount!

  4. Every row represents the number of drinks. So if it’s the first row, the person has to take one drink. If it’s the second row, they have to take two drinks and so on.

  5. If you think a player is lying, you can call their bluff. But be careful, if you’re wrong, you have to drink the amount that was on the row + 1 additional drink! If you were right, the liar has to drink double.

3. Spoons

Spoons is a fast-paced card drinking game that’s perfect for small and large groups. All you need to play is a deck of cards and some spoons (Note: one less spoon than the number of players). And of course, you’ll need some drinks.

How to play Spoons

  1. Each round, a dealer will be chosen who will then deal the cards clockwise until each player has four cards. The dealer will then place the remaining cards in the middle of the table, face down.

  2. Then, the next player clockwise does the same thing. This continues until one player has a full set of four matching cards.

  3. When the first player gets a set of four, all players must grab a spoon from the middle of the table. The player who doesn’t grab a spoon must drink and is out of the game.

  4. The last player remaining in the game is the winner!
