1. Best Overall: Trivial Pursuit Master Edition

Available on
  • Player count: 2-6 players
  • Duration: 20 minutes average playing time
  • Ages: 16+

Trivial Pursuit Master Edition is our top pick because it provides a much bigger challenge to the classic game. With more than 3,000 questions in six different categories and new twists to make the game more competitive, no trivia night will ever be the same.

Why we love it

What makes this game a clear standout is its easy-to-learn rules and the sheer amount of content it offers. It contains a wide variety of old and modern questions, so it’s sure to test your knowledge base and offer plenty of laughs along the way. This game is perfect for players of all ages and skill levels β€” it’s the ultimate party game!

This game has excellent replayability and offers a great social experience because it now includes a timer and photo questions. Multiple-choice questions also add a new element of challenge, making sure each game is unique and exciting.

The only thing we don’t love is that there need to be more cards to fill the usual two card boxes, but this is a minor complaint. Ultimately, Trivial Pursuit Master Edition deserves the top spot because it combines classic gameplay with modern elements to create hours of fun.

How to play

The goal of Trivial Pursuit Master Edition is to collect six colored wedges and answer the final question correctly. To begin, each player selects a mover and places it in the corresponding starting space. Then, choose who to go first, and the players will take turns rolling the dice and moving their mover around the board.

On your turn, the player to your left will read out a question (from the space you land on it), and you’ll have to answer correctly under a time limit. If you answer correctly, you get the corresponding colored wedge.

Once you collect all six colored wedges, you need to land exactly on the center space of the board (by exact count), and then you can answer the final question. If you answer correctly, you win!

2. Best Icebreaker: Wit’s End

Available on
  • Player count: 2-6 players (teams allowed)
  • Duration: 60 minutes average playing time
  • Ages: 16+

Wit’s End is a great game to break the ice and get everyone debating and having fun. Consisting of various questions and formats, this game will have you scratching your head and bruising your ego if you need to be up to date!

Why we love it

We love how this is such a straightforward game that’s easy to pick up, making it perfect for players that don’t feel comfortable with more complex games. Bring it to a chill party or a leisurely family night, and you’ll have everyone laughing in no time.

This game is also great for keeping everyone engaged because the questions are so varied, so teams are encouraged to work together to answer the questions. If you have players of different ages, Wit’s End can provide a great way to bridge the gap and get everyone involved in the fun.

We do have to note that the questions will often revolve around US history, so if you’re not from the US, it might be a bit challenging to answer some of the questions. But other than that, Wit’s End is worth a try if you want to bring a group of people together.

How to play

At the start of each game, divide your group into teams, choose a playing pawn, and place it on any corner. Roll the dice, and the player or team who rolled the highest number of points will go first.

If you are the first player or team to go, roll the die and place your pawn in either direction (left or right) according to the number on the die. Then, you’ll have to answer a question depending on what space your pawn lands on. For example, if you land on a Teaser square, you or your team should answer the Teaser question correctly.

Draw a card at the top square with the Wit’s End logo β€” you don’t need to roll for this. Decide from which of the four categories you will answer a question without looking at the card yet. If you get the answer right, you win! However, if you get it wrong, your playing pawn slides back down to a purple-colored level, and your end turns.

3. Best Classic: Smart Ass

Available on
  • Player count: 2-6 players
  • Duration: 30 minutes
  • Ages: 12+

Smart Ass is a fast-paced board game that’s simple to learn and is excellent for people of all ages. This classic trivia board game is perfect for adults and kids who want a relatively quick yet enjoyable game night.

Why we love it

This game’s simple to set up and even easier to learn, and we love any trivia board game that everyone can quickly pick up. There’s no official rule about how long you have to answer a question, so you can take as long as you need to think of an answer, and the game won’t take too long.

Even better, this game has great educational value, as there are questions from all sorts of topics – from history and geography to literature and pop culture. This makes it an ideal board game if you’re playing with a younger group, as it can help them learn trivia in a fun way.

We also love that Smart Ass has an element of chance in it. Even if you know all the answers, you may still need to finish because you can land on some spaces that can hinder your progress. This adds an outstanding balance of knowledge and luck to the game, making it even more enjoyable.

The most significant downside of this game is that the questions can be too advanced for younger players. There are some questions that even adults might have difficulty answering, so if you’re playing with a younger group, we recommend grouping them up with adults or playing in teams.

Smart Ass is a great way to test your knowledge while having fun with family and friends. Whether you’re playing with adults or kids, this classic trivia board game will bring everyone together for an enjoyable night!

How to play

Sort the question cards into four categories and place them face down in the center of the table. The cards will have two sides - a yellow and a green side. Play the yellow side first, and then switch to the green side once everyone has gone through the yellow cards.

To start, every player chooses a plastic stand, inserts a Smart Ass playing piece, and places it at Start. The oldest or youngest player will take the first turn. They must roll the colored category die to determine the category of the first question and read the question card and its corresponding clue.

Anyone can yell out an answer, but you are out of the round if you answer incorrectly. The player who gets the question right rolls the numbered die and moves their playing piece around the board. The winner is the first person to reach the center of the board and the Smart Ass tile!

4. Best Immersive: Trivial Pursuit World of Harry Potter Ultimate Edition

Available on
  • Player count: 2-8 players
  • Duration: 30 to 60 minutes
  • Ages: 8+

Got any Harry Potter fans in your trivia crowd? Trivial Pursuit World of Harry Potter Ultimate Edition is the perfect board game for them! From the Hogwarts houses to magical creatures and spells, this game will have Potterheads rejoicing as they answer questions related to their favorite franchise.

Why we love it

The best part about the Trivial Pursuit World of Harry Potter Ultimate Edition is that it brings together everyone’s favorite wizarding world with a classic trivia board game. We love how easily you can immerse into the magical world of Harry Potter while testing your knowledge.

You can find an excellent level of thematic consistency in this game – from the well-crafted and sturdy movers representing the four Hogwarts houses to the cards containing trivia related to characters, events, and locations from the eight movies. The gameboard is full of vibrant colors and intricate artwork, making it a joy to watch and play.

Moreover, with over 500 questions and answers inspired that range from easy to tough, this game will keep you entertained for hours. You’ll be able to relive your favorite moments from the Harry Potter movies and, more importantly, learn more about them while having a blast with friends.

Our only complaint with this edition is that the questions are based on the movies rather than the books. So, if you only read the books and answer according to them, you’ll be surprised that some of your guesses will be wrong.

So if you want a fantastic trivia board game experience in the world of Harry Potter, Trivial Pursuit World of Harry Potter Ultimate Edition is a perfect choice!

How to play

Similar to other editions of Trivial Pursuit, your goal is to be the first player to collect all six wedges and answer the final question correctly. To begin, choose a mover to represent each player and place them on the Start circle. Roll the die to determine which player will go first.

Once it’s your turn, roll the die to determine the color of the category from which you’ll be asking questions. Read the corresponding card on your turn and answer correctly for a wedge. If you answer incorrectly, the turn goes to the next player.

After players collect all six wedges, they must make their way back to the center of the board to answer a special question. If they answer correctly, they win the game!

5. Best for Young Kids: Trekking The National Parks

Available on
  • Player count: 2-5 players
  • Duration: 30 to 60 minutes
  • Ages: 8+

Trekking The National Parks is an exciting and educational way to introduce your young kids to the wonders of America’s national parks! This family-friendly game encourages discovery and exploration while also teaching players facts about America’s national parks.

Why we love it

We appreciate how Trekking The National Parks is short and simple enough for younger kids to understand. The educational aspect of the game makes it an excellent tool for teaching kids about America’s national parks, including their history and ecology.

Even better, the game has great replay value because of the multiple ways you can win. Whether it’s collecting the most Stones Bonus cards or claiming the most park cards, players will have a blast discovering and exploring the wonders of America’s national parks.

A possible downside to this game is that there are many pieces and components, and setting up the game can take a while. We recommend watching a tutorial video to get started as quickly as possible. Nevertheless, Trekking The National Parks is a great game to teach your kids about our wonderful national parks. If you’re looking for a fun and educational game to play with the family, this is it!

How to play

To start, place the Map board in the center of the table. Next, place all 45 stones into the bag and mix them thoroughly. For every park marked on the map, draw one stone from the bag and place it there. Once the bag is emptied, return it to the box; do not use it again.

Every player will receive one Trekker and three Campsites, choosing their colors beforehand. The START location for each player’s Trekker is on the map. All players should keep their Campsites in front of them at all times.

On your turn, you are granted exactly two actions during your turn. You may draw Trek cards, move, claim a Park Card, or occupy a Major Park.

Once you have completed both actions, it is the next player’s turn. The game ends once all stones on the map are collected or a player claims their 5th Park card. Tally your scores, and the player with the most victory points wins!
