1. Star Wars almost caused a real war.

The first Star Wars movie “Episode IV – A New Hope” was shot in 1976 in Tunisia as it seemed the perfect setting. But what they didn’t account for was that Tunisia shared a border with Libya, which dictator Gadaffi ruled at that time.

Libya wanted to start a war because some military vehicle was patrolling in front of the Libyan border. This “military vehicle” in question, though, was nothing but a Jawa Sandcrawler.

2. Luke should turn evil.

In the original script of the original trilogy, Luke should have become the new Darth Vader. But since the franchise was for kids, this idea seemed too dark for George Lucas in the end.

3. R2-D2 was a jerk.

R2-D2 wasn’t always the loveable goof he became in the movies. The actual intention was that he spoke in full sentences, mostly insulting C-3PO.

4. Weird communicators.

During its entirety, the Star Wars franchise often used unusual materials as futuristic props. Most notably, though, are Qui-Gon’s and Obi-Wan’s communicators in “The Phantom Menace”: They are just Gillette ladies’ razors. The power of make-believe, huh?

5. Obi-Wan hated Star Wars.

Or better said, the actor behind Obi-Wan: Alec Guinness was normally performing Shakespeare before he did in Star Wars.

According to friends, he felt the dialogues were pure rubbish. He also told a child that stated to have watched the movies over a hundred times to stop watching Star Wars, so he wouldn’t live “in a fantasy world of secondhand, childish banalities”.

6. The porg’s existence.

Did you know that the porgs were never meant to be included in the movie? They weren’t even part of the script! The only reason why they are in there is because “The Last Jedi” was shot on the Irish island of Skellig Michael, where hundreds of puffins roam around. And they aren’t very shy. So, as a last-minute addition, they just replaced these birds with the Porgs instead of removing them digitally.

7. Bear hunters.

While the Star Wars crew shot in the Redwood forests of Northern California for “Return of the Jedi”, they had to get the bodyguards for Chewbacca. Why, you ask? Because they had to protect him from hunters that could mistake him for a bear or even Bigfoot.

8. Yoda, the monkey.

Before Yoda was made with animatronics and puppetry, they planned on dressing up a monkey. But since the monkey looked hideous with its Yoda mask, that idea was dropped.

9. R2-D2’s beeps.

The sounds R2-D2 makes are somewhat unique and memorable. But did you know that they stem from the sounds a baby makes? They are just processed quite a lot.

10. The dirty word engraved lightsaber.

Many of you probably know Samuel L. Jackson from other movies, where he has quite the dirty mouth. In one of them – Pulp Fiction, to be precise – he has a wallet with some nasty words on it. (If you’ve seen any other movie with Jackson, you can probably tell which one.)

And in Star Wars, his lightsaber isn’t just unique because it’s purple, but also because it is engraved with the exact same words. These just don’t show up on camera.
